Grand Island East Channel Light House Rescue Project

Grand Island's Historic East Channel Lighthouse.

Help us save the light
The Grand Island East Channel Lighthouse stood watch over the entrance to Munising Bay for more than 130 years.  The Grand Island East Channel Light Rescue Project Committee was formed in 1999 in an attempt to save the historic structure.  The American Lighthouse Federation ranks the East Channel Lighthouse near the top of its doomsday list of endangered lighthouses.

Construction of the light house was begun in 1867 and completed the next summer and was maintained by its keeper George Pryor.  It was the beacon of safe harbor along the shipwreck coast when the frequent storms would rage along the pictured rocks shoreline.
